Chito’s Gvino Takes Center Stage
On the evening of January 23, 2025, Brno’s JustWine bar transformed into a hub of Georgian viticultural excellence, hosting an intimate wine-tasting event featuring Chito’s Gvino. Approximately 25 wine enthusiasts gathered to explore the unique flavours of Georgia’s ancient winemaking tradition, guided by none other than the owner of Chito’s Gvino.
A Taste of Georgia in the Heart of Brno
JustWine, renowned for its curated selection of fine wines and engaging tasting sessions, provided the perfect backdrop for this immersive experience. The event allowed guests to delve into the fascinating world of Georgian natural wines, produced using the country’s millennia-old Kvevri method—fermenting and ageing wines in clay vessels buried underground.
Chito’s Gvino: A Craft Winemaker’s Passion
Founded in 2017 by Nino Chitoshvili, a pianist-turned-winemaker, Chito’s Gvino has quickly gained recognition for its dedication to organic and biodynamic vineyard management. With vineyards nestled in Kakheti’s Vachnadziani village, the winery specializes in crafting wines that authentically express the region’s terroir. Attendees had the rare chance to hear firsthand about the meticulous care and passion that go into every bottle.
The Wine Selection and Tasting Experience
The evening showcased a carefully curated selection of Chito’s Gvino wines, each telling its own story of craftsmanship and tradition:
- Rkatsiteli Amber Wine – A vibrant, full-bodied amber wine with extended skin contact, revealing layers of dried fruits, nuts, and honeyed aromas.
- Kisi Qvevri – Elegant and complex, this rare varietal displayed floral and apricot notes, balanced by a pleasant tannic structure.
- Saperavi 2021 – The highlight of the evening, this deep ruby-red wine, made from Georgia’s iconic Saperavi grape, boasted rich dark fruit flavours, velvety tannins, and a hint of spice, earning it a gold medal at the international Saperavi competition.
Each pour was accompanied by insightful commentary from Nino Chitoshvili, who shared stories about the winery’s philosophy, the challenges of natural vinification, and the significance of sustainable winemaking practices.
A Night to Remember
The event was not just about tasting wine but about embracing a culture. Conversations flowed as guests engaged with the winemaker, exchanging thoughts on flavour profiles, food pairings, and the growing appreciation for natural wines worldwide. The warm and welcoming atmosphere at JustWine bar made it an evening to remember for all attendees.
With the success of this event, it’s clear that Georgian wines continue to captivate wine lovers beyond their homeland. Chito’s Gvino’s presence in Brno marks another step in bringing the rich heritage of Georgian winemaking to an international audience—one glass at a time.
