We are proud to announce that Chito’s Gvino, one of Georgia’s most distinguished boutique wineries, has been awarded a Silver Medal at the 2025 London Wine Competition for its Rkatsiteli Qvevri 2022, a natural amber wine crafted in the traditional Georgian qvevri style.
Held annually in the UK, the London Wine Competition is one of the world’s most consumer-focused and respected wine competitions. Wines are judged on three key criteria: quality, value for money, and packaging appeal. This unique approach highlights not only winemaking excellence but also the ability of producers to connect with real-world consumers—making the recognition especially meaningful for small, independent wineries like Chito’s Gvino.
A Testament to Tradition and Precision
The awarded wine, Rkatsiteli Qvevri 2022, is produced from 100% Rkatsiteli, one of Georgia’s oldest and most celebrated grape varieties. The grapes are organically grown in the Kakheti region, known as the cradle of Georgian viticulture. Chito’s Gvino follows low-intervention and natural winemaking practices, allowing the fruit and terroir to express themselves fully.
The wine is fermented and matured for six months in qvevri, and large clay vessels are buried underground to ensure stable temperatures and slow maturation. This ancient method, recognized by UNESCO as part of the intangible heritage of humanity, imparts a unique depth and structure to the wine.
The Rkatsiteli Qvevri 2022 reveals a deep amber hue and a layered aromatic profile: notes of dried apricot, citrus peel, white flowers, and subtle herbal tones. On the palate, it is textured and elegant, with fine tannins and a refreshing mineral backbone. Unfiltered and naturally fermented, it offers a pure and honest expression of Georgia’s winemaking soul.
Elevating Georgian Wine on the Global Stage
This Silver Medal is a major milestone for Chito’s Gvino and a powerful signal of the global recognition that Georgian amber wines are beginning to receive. It demonstrates that ancient winemaking methods, when applied with precision and integrity, can compete on equal terms with the most sophisticated wines of the world.
At GeorgianWine.online, we are honoured to support and represent Chito’s Gvino. We believe that this recognition will inspire even more wine lovers to explore the rich and diverse world of Georgian natural wines — wines that not only delight the senses but also tell a story of culture, craftsmanship, and resilience.
