Georgian Wines Meet Barcelona’s Palate

Georgian wine tasting Barcelona Vins Per Tu

A Tasting Event at Vins per Tu

On a warm spring day in Barcelona, a new chapter in the story of Georgian wine began — not in the vineyards of Kakheti or the cellars of Samegrelo, but in the heart of Catalonia’s wine culture.

Dasha, our dedicated wine ambassador in Barcelona, brought a curated selection of Georgian natural wines to the refined attention of William “Willy” Rezende, the visionary behind Vins per Tu, one of the city’s most beloved wine boutiques. This encounter marked more than just a tasting — it was a meeting of philosophies, terroirs, and traditions.

Old World, New Energy

Presented during an intimate session at Vins per Tu, the selection included wines from Orkoli Winery — a boutique producer reviving rare grapes from the western Georgian region of Samegrelo — and Rkatsiteli Qvevri 2022 by Chito’s Gvino, a stunning example of ancient winemaking techniques brought to life with modern finesse.

Willy, a Brazilian-born, Barcelona-rooted sommelier with a deep passion for terroir and authenticity, is known for his ability to discover and elevate under-the-radar gems. As profiled by Culinary Backstreets, his shop focuses on “small producers with soul.” With its 8,000-year-old qvevri tradition and organic, low-intervention spirit, Georgian wine was an immediate match.

“This is the kind of wine that tells a story — not just about a place, but about how people live and think,” Willy commented during the tasting. “You can feel the clay, the grape, the hands that made it.”

A Growing Curiosity for Georgian Wine

Spain’s wine scene is evolving, and curiosity is growing toward wines that combine authenticity with character. Georgian amber wines, natural qvevri-fermented reds, and fresh innovations like Petnat and Delicate Red offer a new sensory landscape for sommeliers, collectors, and adventurous drinkers.

This event at Vins per Tu signals a promising future — not just for sales, but for true cultural exchange, grounded in respect for craftsmanship and a thirst for the unexpected.

What’s Next?

We thank Willy Rezende for his openness and enthusiasm, and we’re proud of Dasha for bringing this meeting to life. With passion, knowledge, and a little bit of Georgian boldness, she continues to open doors for our wines across Spain.

GeorgianWine.online looks forward to more tastings, conversations, and glasses raised to celebrate tradition reimagined.
